July 13, 2016 - The Love of the Father

July 13th, 2016 - Thoughts for your Week

Scripture Verse

Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
Psalm 103: 2-5

The Love of the Father

Do you really believe in the love of the Father? Do you believe that He gave you freedom through the sacrifice of His own Son? Do you believe that you have been spared? Do you believe that He has mercy over you? If you struggle with this, take a moment now and ask him to show you if there are any false beliefs or obstacles that are preventing you from experiencing a deeper relationship with Him. Trust what He brings to mind and pray about it. He wants you to live in the freedom of your salvation, to be made whole.

“Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,” says the Lord, who has compassion on you.”
Isaiah 54:10

“He tends His flock like a shepherd; He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart; He gently leads those that have young.”
Isaiah 40:11

Be assured that the same God who walked with Moses, Joshua, Elijah, Peter, James, John, Paul and many others in the bible lives within you! The God who blessed them is just as capable of working out His purposes in your life.
Henry Blackaby

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8: 35, 37-39

What you do reveals what you believe.
Are you living life like you BELIEVE that Jesus died for you? That He rose again for you? That He has gone to prepare a place for you? And that He loves you with all His heart and longs to know you and be known by you?
What do you believe?

“One of the most common tactics of the devil is tempting us towards what is good and having us believe that it is best (that we shouldn’t expect any more from God). This is the error of Martha, worried and anxious about many things and missing Jesus in that good work.”
Norm Funk (Luke 10:38-42)

If God loves us like He promises, then we can expect and hope that He wants more for us. We can move forward in all confidence that He will work out His purposes in our lives. If you are struggling today, guard yourself up in the truth of the scriptures and trust in the love of your Heavenly Father who will do what He says.

What are you distracted by? Are you struggling with fears, fatigue, anger, lack of direction and wondering where is this God who promises me life? He is with you, waiting for you to seek Him with your whole heart. To stop with the busyness of your life and just sit awhile in His presence. To refrain from speaking at Him, and instead turn a listening ear to Him.

Don’t be satisfied with where you are – crave more of Him. Go deeper with Him. Seek Him until you find Him. He will never disappoint you.

June 21, 2016 - The Five M’s of Correctly Hearing God

June 21st, 2016 - Thoughts for your Week

Scripture Verse

Blessed are those who listen to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway. For those who find me find life and receive favor from the Lord.
Proverbs 8:34-35
What hinders me from hearing is that I am taken up with other things. It is not that I will not hear God, but I am not devoted in the right place. I am devoted to things, to service, to convictions, and God may say what He likes, but I do not hear Him. The child attitude is always, “Speak, Lord, for your servant hears”.
Oswald Chambers

The Five M’s of Correctly Hearing God
(taken from “Discerning the Voice of God” by Priscilla Shirer)
  1. Look for the MESSAGE of the Spirit: Listen to the Holy Spirit. Consciously turn your attention inward to see if what you are sensing carries the weight of God.
  2. Live in the MODE of prayer: Submit what you hear back to God in prayer. Throughout your day when the issue comes into your mind, pray it back to God.
  3. Search out the MODEL of Scripture: Carefully consider the scriptures. Does what you think or hear contradict the character of God or the Word of God?
  4. Submit to the MINISTRY of Eli: Seek the counsel of a wise, more mature believer who can discern God’s leading in his or her own life.
  5. Expect the MERCY of confirmation: Ask God for confirmation and expect Him to give it to you. Sometimes he’ll use the Bible, or circumstances, or even another person.

The Holy Spirit will never tell us to do anything that isn’t in God’s will. He speaks exactly what he hears from the Father. Our responsibility is to cooperate by obeying His promptings and bathing ourselves in the Word and in prayer.

- Priscilla Shirer

“Spend your time and energy in training yourself for spiritual fitness. Physical exercise has some value, but spiritual exercise is much more important, for it promises a reward in both this life and the next.”
1 Timothy 4: 7-8 (NLT)

“Be sure to pay attention to what you hear. To those who are open to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But to those who are not listening, even what they think they have will be taken away from them.”
Luke 8:18 (NLT)

When God is silent…
“God’s silence may be hardly noticeable at first. You may still remember times when God spoke to you, but you gradually realize you’ve not heard His voice for a long time. If you realize you are in a “drought”, immediately seek God and ask Him what adjustments your life requires so you can once again enjoy fellowship with Him. It may be that you disobeyed His last instructions to you and that He is waiting on your obedience before giving you a new direction. It may be unconfessed sin or a damaged relationship. It is possible that you have done too much talking in your prayer times and that He wants you to listen. God’s silences can be powerful times for Him to communicate with you.
- Henry Blackaby
